Anas Bhurtun

Anas is a corporate associate based in the Dubai office of Gowling WLG. Anas has a diverse background working on corporate/M&A, general financing and project financing transactions in the construction, transportation, oil and gas, renewable energy and infrastructure space. More recently, Anas has a taken an interest in emerging technologies in the Middle East, such as FinTech, blockchain and cryptocurrency transactions.

Prior to joining the firm, Anas trained at a magic circle law firm in London and subsequently worked at an international law firm in Dubai where he assisted FTSE 100 corporations, governments and banks on M&A, corporate financing and project financing transactions across Saudi Arabia, Oman, Kuwait, Jordan, Bahrain, Sri Lanka and the UAE.

  • A major asset manager with c. $500 billion of assets under management, on the corporate reorganisation of its Multiplex Middle East business.
  • A global energy and commodities company in relation to certain corporate matters surrounding the sale and purchase agreement relating to an oil field in the Republic of Congo.
  • A FTSE 100 telecommunications company in connection with its £23 billion joint venture in India.
  • A major petrochemical manufacturer based in Kuwait on the asset sale of an ammonia and urea plant.
  • A major South Korean conglomerate on their proposed acquisition of a minority interest in the Duqm independent power and water project in the Sultanate of Oman.
  • A government-backed airport operator on various commercial, corporate and financial matters in connection with their management and operation of Queen Alia International Airport in Amman, Jordan.
  • The UK Government on the negotiations of a contract for difference and support arrangements for the Hinkley Point C nuclear power station, the first nuclear power station to be built in the UK in c. 20 years.
  • A US oil and gas company on its £2.4 billion secondary listing on the London Stock Exchange.
  • The consortium of lenders supporting the Marubeni Corp/Acciona Aqua/Abdul Latif Jameel consortium's successful project financing of the Shuqaiq 3 independent water and desalination project in Saudi Arabia.
  • Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) on the procurement of Phase IV of the 950 MW IPP, to be built in the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park in Dubai, UAE.
  • The lenders supporting the bid by a consortium of major Japanese sponsors for the Taweelah IWP in Abu Dhabi, UAE, which is proposed to become the world's largest reverse osmosis seawater desalination plant.
