Andrew Lamb

Andrew Lamb is a partner in Gowling WLG's Calgary office. He is a member of the Energy Group and Head of the firm's Oil and Gas Group. 

With over 20 years of experience, Andrew's practice is focused on renewable energy construction projects and joint ventures. He also has an in-depth background in the petroleum and natural gas industries and oilfield services industries. 

Andrew has handled a wide variety of corporate and commercial legal issues and disputes for many long-term clients, both private and publicly traded. He advises clients with respect to:

  • joint venture and project development agreements;
  • asset and share acquisitions and divestitures;
  • commodity/financial contracts and transactions, including ISDAs, GasEDIs, NAESBs, letters of credit, guarantees, security agreements and netting arrangements;
  • agreements for the provision of a broad range of goods and services, from both the provider's and the buyer's positions; and
  • legal risk analysis and settlement negotiation.

Andrew has authored numerous articles on contract law and oil and gas law for the Alberta Law Review and the Canadian Energy Law Foundation. He has also taught an introductory course on oil and gas law for the Canadian Association of Petroleum Landmen.

Outside of his practice, Andrew currently volunteers with the Mentor Connect and Mentor Express programs of the Law Society of Alberta. He previously volunteered on the Board of Directors with the Alberta Chrysalis Society for six years, including one year where he served as co-chair.

Representative Work

2019-2023 Development of a 580+ km NGL pipeline system in N.W. Alberta: Lead counsel for the construction of a twin HVP / LVP pipeline system. Negotiated and drafted five mainline construction contracts, seven impact and benefits agreements with Indigenous partners, as well as the vital, nine-figure pipe procurement contract. Advised company with respect to COVID-19 implications, construction liens, holdback disputes and various other legal matters.

2022 Acquisition of significant NGL Infrastructure in central Alberta: Negotiated and drafted a set of long-term NGL fractionation, transportation, loading and storage agreements as part of client's acquisition of prime NGL processing infrastructure.

2019 LNG Canada and Coastal GasLink camps: Negotiated and drafted impact and benefit agreements with multiple B.C. First Nations to support the camp construction projects necessary to support these projects.

2018 and 2022 Development of a greenfield gas processing plant and NGL hub: Negotiated and drafted the commercial and operational contracts underpinning the construction and expansion of a new 260 mmcf/d gas plant and related facilities in N.W. Alberta.

2018 Development of 4.8 million barrel crude oil tank terminal: Lead counsel in the year's-long negotiation of a complicated joint venture agreement with a U.S. based counterparty for a crude oil terminal in the Edmonton area, which included a long-term land lease and negotiating numerous issues with the municipality.
