Barbara Walczak

Barbara (Basia) Walczak is an articling student in Gowling WLG’s Ottawa office. Basia completed her BCL/LLB degrees at McGill University. She represented McGill at the Wilson Moot and served as a solicitations editor and managing editor of the McGill Journal of Sustainable Development Law. She also worked as a student advocate at the legal information clinic at McGill.

Basia holds a BA (Honours) from the University of Ottawa with a major in music and a minor in law. She focused her research on copyright law. During her legal studies, Basia worked at the Council of Europe in Strasbourg, France, and as a legislative editor at the Senate of Canada.

In her spare time, Basia volunteers as a law student ambassador and law partner to incoming 1L students. She has also been involved in organizing benefit concerts for Cambodian orphanages, raising over $12,000 towards an education fund, medical care and self-reliant agriculture. She also enjoys continuing to play as a classically trained violinist.
