Benjamin R. Fairweather

    Bio

    Benjamin R. Fairweather is a summer law student at Gowling WLG’s Calgary office. He is entering his third year of law school at the University of Saskatchewan.

    Prior to attending law school, Benjamin worked in professional sport in a variety of operational roles. After earning his bachelor of sport management from Brock University, with a minor in labour studies, he joined the Canadian Football League head office in Toronto, where he worked in football operations and assisted with the review and administration of player contracts and league processes. He later served as manager of basketball operations for the Saskatchewan Rattlers of the Canadian Elite Basketball League, supporting team logistics and day-to-day operations. 

    Benjamin is deeply committed to giving back to the Métis community. For his work as a volunteer youth basketball coach and programming coordinator at the White Buffalo Youth Lodge, he was recognized with the Class of 1983 Indigenous Law Student Award for Community Leadership. He currently serves as the treasurer for the University of Saskatchewan Chapter of the Runnymede Society.

    Benjamin is interested in labour and employment law as well as commercial litigation. His background in professional sport has strengthened his attention to detail, stakeholder management skills, and understanding of complex organizational frameworks, which provides a strong foundation for navigating these areas of practice.
