Braden Lauer

Braden Lauer is a driven and creative associate in Gowling WLG's Business Law Group in Vancouver. His practice includes a unique blend of:

  • Corporate commercial work, M&A, sales of private businesses, corporate governance (incorporation, reorganization and dissolution of companies, and advice to shareholders, officers and directors), specifically as these relate to the emerging tech sector in British Columbia;
  • Venture financing matters, working with businesses in early stages of growth
  • Research and compliance related to money services business, payment services, cryptocurrency use and ICOs; and
  • Franchisor and franchisee advisory to domestic and international clients, offering affordable and personable franchise disclosure compliance products and alternatives for growth;

The common thread that ties together Braden's practice is passionate and personable service. He is passionate about understanding his clients' needs and finding solutions that are uniquely suited to each client. Braden has experience wearing a business advisory “hat,” with his previous work in his own start-up, an entity called Franchise Kickstarter.

Braden further applies his passionate and personable nature to assisting the various charities and not-for-profits clients of Gowling WLG in Vancouver. He has gained experience with not-for-profit boards as a director and corporate governance committee member of the Vancouver International Children's Festival.

Prior to joining Gowling WLG, Braden worked as a legal intern with in-house counsel at both a growing fintech company and a credit union central. Braden obtained his JD from the Peter A. Allard School of Law at the University of British Columbia, and holds a BComm with distinction from the University of Alberta.

Outside of being a lawyer, you may recognize Braden from his stint on CBC, winning the title of Canada's Smartest Person in 2014. Pre-pandemic, Braden was a prolific pinball player, reaching the top 15 of ranked players in the province.
