Christian Clavette

Christian Clavette is a summer law student in the Intellectual Property Group of Gowling WLG’s Ottawa office. He is currently completing a JD in the French Common Law program at the University of Ottawa.

Prior to law school, Christian worked as a research & development scientist at a pharmaceutical company in Montréal, where he specialized in process chemistry and scale-up synthesis. Part of his work contributed to the development of an active pharmaceutical ingredient currently being tested in a clinical trial. He was also a science lecturer, teaching undergraduate chemistry at the University of Ottawa.

Christian holds a PhD in synthetic organic chemistry from the University of Ottawa. His research focused on the development of methods for the synthesis of novel heterocyclic compounds and peptide mimetics. He has authored nine scientific publications which appeared, among other journals, in the Journal of the American Chemical Society and Angewandte Chemie International Edition.

Christian is also the co-inventor of a patented technology.
