Cristina Borbely

Cristina Borbely is an associate lawyer in Gowling WLG's Toronto office, practising in the firm's Advocacy Group. Her practice includes complex corporate/commercial litigation, white collar defence, investigations, and professional liability.

Cristina has experience with contract and negligence claims as well as regulatory and criminal matters, including securities and blockchain-related enforcement matters and environmental matters.

Cristina has appeared before the Ontario Court of Justice, the Ontario Superior Court of Justice, and administrative tribunals including the Health Professions Appeal and Review Board.

Cristina has experience conducting and advising on both internal investigations as well as workplace investigations. Cristina obtained the Osgoode Advanced Certificate in Workplace Investigations in 2023.

Cristina graduated from the Peter A. Allard School of Law at the University of British Columbia.

While at law school, Cristina was a member of the 2018 Allard team for the Jessup International Law Moot Court Competition, bringing home the First Place Memorial Prize. She was also involved with the University of British Columbia Law Review as an associate editor.

In her third year of law school, Cristina participated in the Corporate Counsel Externship at a national telecommunications company, where she assisted in-house counsel with corporate governance matters.

Cristina authored a chapter on transnational business and human rights in the book Corporate Law and Sustainability from the Next Generation of Lawyers, edited by Carol Liao and published in 2022. 

Cristina summered and articled with the firm.
