Derek Varrin

Derek Varrin is an articling student in Gowling WLG's Toronto office. He completed his JD at Queen’s University. During his studies, Derek received the Queen’s Law Prize in Mergers and Acquisitions as well as the Heenan Blaikie LLP Scholarship for the highest grade in Legal Writing and Written Advocacy.

Before joining Gowling WLG as a summer student and articling student, Derek interned at the National Hockey League Players’ Association (NHLPA) in 2021, where he researched and drafted salary arbitration briefs and rebuttal documents for NHL players to use in salary arbitration hearings.

During his undergraduate studies, Derek played on the Laurentian University men’s varsity hockey team for four years and was a recipient of the Academic All-Canadian Award.
