Edward Johnston is a partner in the Gowling WLG Toronto office, practising corporate/commercial law with significant exposure to mergers and acquisitions, reorganizations, finance, lending, and private equity investments.
Ed’s practice is focused on private company law. He has extensive experience advising Canadians and non-Canadians on the structuring and establishment of new businesses in Canada, the reorganization of existing businesses and the ongoing commercial and contractual relationships of such businesses.
His clients come from and include Canadian subsidiaries of European and American parent companies and Canadian-based owner-operator businesses in diverse industry sectors, including financial services, technology, auto parts, waste management, steel, energy and institutional real estate.
Ed is also involved in the structuring of private equity, real estate and infrastructure asset class investment products and has represented market participants in creating investment structures to maximize returns and minimize risk for institutional real estate investors. In this capacity, he is active in the creation of limited partnerships, co-ownerships and Section 149 pension realty corporations on behalf of many of Canada’s leading pension funds and asset managers.
