Hasna Syed

Hasna Syed is an articling student in Gowling WLG’s Ottawa office.

Hasna graduated law school from the University of British Columbia (UBC). During her studies, Hasna was elected by her peers to the Careers Committee, served as the Law Representative on the Graduate Mental Health & Well-being Committee, and competed in the Fletcher Insolvency Law Moot as her team’s Captain as well as the inaugural uOttawa Legal Innovation Hackathon.

Prior to law school, Hasna completed her bachelors degree at the University of Toronto (U of T), and spent a semester at Oxford University. She later undertook a Master’s degree at the London School of Economics & Political Science (LSE) focusing on international law, trade, and social policy. Her dissertation covered Canada’s role in the international human rights arena through an assessment of the country’s labour and employment laws and practices. After graduate school, Hasna pursued an internship with the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR).

In her spare time, Hasna is a musician and sings professionally in a band with her siblings. They have performed during the Pan Am Games, have their song in a UN and Jeunesses Musicales Campaign, and recently won Gold at the World Championships of Performing Arts – the official Talent Olympics. She also co-founded the non-profit organization, Global Youth Impact. Hasna has been featured in the Huffington Post and on CBC for her music and community involvement.
