Representative Work

Ihlas’s clients have included multinational companies, electronic equipment manufacturers, cosmetic firms and consumer goods manufacturers.

  • Represented an international tobacco company in a trademark enforcement case against a local tobacco company, its affiliate and a manufacturer of counterfeit tobacco products. He ensured that the trademark application for a confusingly similar trademark filed by a competitor was dismissed. He then assisted in initiating civil litigation proceedings against a manufacturer that produced many of the counterfeit tobacco products. The dispute was amicably settled and the manufacturer agreed to pay substantial compensation to the client.
  • Developed and implemented a pre-trial settlement strategy for a client that resulted in more than 150 disabled infringing websites and domain names. The favourable outcome was based on his previous experience in working with international hosting providers and domain registrars.
  • Initiated and oversaw Uniform Rapid Suspension System (URS) procedures for a famous brand of home electronic devices, coffee machines and baby products. The brand owner had been constantly challenged by infringing domain websites and domain names within Runet. Up to that point, pre-trial tools - such as abuse complaints to hosting providers, verification requests to registrars and cease-and-desist letters - had not been effective. Ihlas’s innovative initiation of URS procedures proved to be the correct option for deactivating infringing domain names registered in new GTLD zones.
  • Managed a cease-and-desist letter campaign against sellers of counterfeit toothbrushes. As a result, the local market lost interest in distributing the counterfeits and the imitation toothbrushes were withdrawn.
  • Represented the Russian owner of a popular cosmetic brand in a dispute with a famous Russian designer regarding inconsistent provisions in their license agreement on the use of a word trademark on the package created by the designer.
