Ilias Hmimas

Ilias Hmimas joined Gowling WLG’s team as a law student in the summer of 2018. He will start articling at the Montréal office in 2020.

In May 2018, Ilias completed his bachelor of civil law (cum laude) at the University of Ottawa. While there, he had made time to involve himself within the school and to act as a designated mentor for two students, in addition to being an intellectual property resource and a class representative. As part of his studies, he participated in an exchange program at the University of Hong Kong in 2017.

Ilias has served as a military officer in the Canadian Armed Forces since he started university, assuming the position of platoon commander for recruits, amongst other roles.

A two-time recipient of the Merit Scholarship (2016-2017 and 2017-2018) and winner of the Bereskin & Parr LLP Prize (2016-2017) for scoring the highest grade in his intellectual property class, Ilias is named on the Dean’s Honour List of the University of Ottawa’s Faculty of Law. In 2018, he was also awarded the “Mike around the World” Bursary for his research paper on the compatibility between human rights and Chinese Confucianism, which he wrote during his exchange at the University of Hong Kong.
