Jacob Polowin
Jacob is a lawyer in Gowling WLG's Ottawa office, with a broad municipal law and civil litigation practice. He regularly represents clients in a variety of areas, including land use planning matters, development disputes, real estate disputes, expropriation, interpretation of municipal by-laws, municipal conflicts of interest, and information and privacy matters.
Jacob has represented all sides of the development industry, including developers, municipalities, and community organizations. He has also acted on land use planning issues for companies in the burgeoning cannabis industry. He regularly engages and works with experts in the fields of land use planning, economics, traffic engineering, architecture, heritage, environmental consulting, real estate appraisal, business loss quantification and business valuation.
Jacob regularly appears before the Local Planning Appeal Tribunal (formerly the Ontario Municipal Board), and has also appeared before all levels of Courts in Ontario, including the Court of Appeal, Divisional Court, Ontario Superior Court of Justice and Ontario Court of Justice.
Active in the community, Jacob serves as legal advisor on the Board of Directors of the Tamir Foundation, a charitable organization providing a wide range of services to people with developmental disabilities. He also serves on the Steering Committee of the Jewish Federation of Ottawa's Emerging Generation division.
Jacob is a member of Gowling WLG's national Municipal Law Group and national Expropriation Law Group. He is also a member of the Ontario Bar Association, the County of Carleton Law Association, and the Ontario Expropriation Association.
