James Hall

James is an employment lawyer based in the London office. He deals with a wide range of employment issues on a daily basis, dedicated to resolving client issues in the workplace. Examples of some of his work include employment tribunal claims, settlement agreements, senior executive terminations, employment aspects of corporate transactions, redundancy situations, the effect of TUPE, GDPR in employment and trade union issues in the workplace.

James has also acted on behalf of senior executives and regularly gets involved with pro-bono projects.

Experience

  • Defending employment tribunal claims for large and small employers, dealing with the claim from receipt of the ET1, to attending the full merits hearing at tribunal with Counsel (recently this has included successfully defending a complex disability discrimination claim);
  • Facilitating commercial settlements for numerous clients facing claims in the employment tribunal.
  • Advising on a wide range of employment issues on corporate transactions including due diligence, the application of TUPE, the working time regulations, and the national minimum wage.
  • Advising on general HR advisory work ranging from termination letters to queries on family leave entitlement and facilitating pre-termination negotiations leading to successful settlements.
  • Advising on redundancy scenarios dealing with both individual and collective processes.
  • Advising on the application of GDPR in the workplace, employee DSARs, apprenticeship services contracts, trade union detriment claims and age & disability discrimination.
  • Presenting to clients on recent updates to the law on key topics.
  • Drafting consultancy agreements, service agreements, contracts of employment and staff handbooks & polices.
  • Involved in defending a large trade union led redundancy claim for a client in the mining sector.
  • Advising on the enforcement of restrictive covenants and garden leave.
  • Involved in High Court injunctive proceedings against a client's senior employee.
