James J. Shanks

Jim Shanks is a senior partner in the Toronto office of Gowling WLG. He practises in the area of financial services, with related experience in private equity, business acquisition and real estate development.

Jim’s debt finance experience covers all manner of senior and subordinate debt financing, both domestic and international, including business acquisition finance, working capital and asset-based lending, project finance, P3 and real estate and condominium financing. This experience also includes involvement with several significant debt restructuring arrangements and security enforcement scenarios.

In addition, Jim has extensive expertise with various asset and share acquisitions, private equity arrangements, and joint venture, partnership and shareholders arrangements, along with construction loan and other development arrangements. Jim has ancillary experience with various financial products and instruments, including letters of credit, interest rate swaps, securities repurchase agreements, forward exchange contracts and asset securitization arrangements.
