Jason Mercier

Jason Mercier is an associate in Gowling WLG’s Ottawa office practicing in the area of medical defense, with a focus on professional liability, medical malpractice and disciplinary matters. He both summered and articled at Gowling WLG.

Jason completed his JD in the French common law program at the University of Ottawa. Throughout his studies, Jason won the Charles-Rousseau Moot Competition in International Public Law and competed in the Hockey Arbitration Competition of Canada. Jason also completed legal internships with the Department of Justice as well as with a small Ottawa firm. He authored an article titled “Lost in the Labyrinth and Found in the Garden: Issues with Restrictive Clauses in Employment Contracts in Canada's Common Law Provinces” which was published by the Ottawa Law Review.

Prior to entering law school, Jason was an educator in Canada for several years. He also spent a year teaching English as a second language in South Korea.

Jason is fluent in English and French and practises in both languages.


Jason was the vice-president of the Regroupement des étudiant(e)s de Common Law en Français, which strives to promote French language and culture within the common law program and the legal community.

Jason was also involved in his community by co-ordinating monthly dinners, raising funds and distributing essential items for families in need in Fort McMurray. He also led the Fort McMurray delegation as head of mission to the Alberta Francophone Games.
