Jean-François Hamel

Jean-François Hamel is a student in Gowling WLG’s Montréal office and was admitted to the firm in 2018. He is currently completing the final year of his bachelor of laws at the Université de Montréal.

Jean-François previously obtained a bachelor of arts from the Université de Montréal in 2013, before pursuing a master’s degree in French language and literature at McGill University, during which time he worked as a research assistant, as well as a lecturer for two seminars in Montréal and Ottawa.

Professionally speaking, Jean-François worked as a lecturer in the University of Toronto’s Department of French Studies and also served as a member of the editorial committee for a Québec cultural magazine for many years.

At law school, Jean-François plays an active role in faculty student life. In recent years, he acted as corporate secretary of the Business Law and Management Committee (Comité Droit des affaires et gestion).

Furthermore, he co-founded the Tax Law Committee (Comité Droit fiscal) in 2017, acted as its vice-chair of events, and he was actively involved in founding the Business Law Association (Regroupement en droit des affaires) in the spring of 2018.
