John D. Harris

John Harris is a partner in Gowling WLG's Ottawa office. His practice focuses on drafting, prosecuting and litigating patents in the high-tech, mechanical and electrical subject matter areas. John's practice also includes advising both established and startup companies in the building, maintaining and utilization of patent and industrial design portfolios. John also advises clients with respect to copyright in computer programs.

As a member of Gowling WLG’s high-tech patent group, John has extensive patent drafting experience in a wide range of subject-matter areas, including database management systems, data storage systems, data access and business intelligence tools, graphical user interfaces, compression, encryption, business methods, network architecture, computer hardware, digital signal processors, semiconductor design, nuclear scintillation cameras, medical devices, agricultural equipment, mechanical and electromechanical devices.

John is a lawyer, a registered Canadian patent agent, a registered United States patent agent and a professional engineer.
