Julia Strettell

Julia Strettell has specialised in dispute resolution, particularly in the Engineering and Construction sector for over 12 years; acting for developers, employers, contractors, manufacturers and professionals and has extensive experience in all aspects of complex major disputes including multi-party disputes. 

Julia's main focus is on international arbitration and she has acted in multiple jurisdictions; in relation to some of the most complex and high value disputes in the industry, and has had experience in a wide range of different law. Julia has a special interest in energy, and regularly works on complicated disputes in that sector. 

Julia also acts on domestic arbitrations, adjudication and court proceedings as well as proving dispute resolution advice across the board. 

In addition to the UK, Julia has practiced in both Australia and New Zealand and has extensive knowledge of those jurisdictions.

  • Acting for a main contractor Claimant against the Owner in a series of ad-hoc arbitrations concerning a waste water treatment facility in Oman (Omani Law).
  • Acting for a Finnish company Claimant in relation to disputes with a Saudi Arabian company concerning the construction of a titanium smelter in Saudi Arabia (ICC arbitration clause, English law, seat SA).
  • Acting for a Danish company in two ICC Arbitrations against an El Salvadorian company in relation to the construction of a power plant in El Salvador (English law, seat NY).
  • Acting for a claimant in an ad hoc arbitration in relation to disputes arising under a JV agreement in relation to the design and construction of a rail system.
  • Acting for the Claimant on an ICC Arbitration concerning the construction of a Nuclear Power Plant in Finland and on two separate, connected adjudications (Finnish law, seat Stockholm).
  • Acting for the Claimant on a series of ICC Arbitrations in relation to the construction of an airport in Oman (English law, seat Oman).
  • Acted for a Claimant investor in an ICC Arbitration in relation to disputes concerning the building and operation of a transport system for the City of Almaty, Kazakhstan and the transfer of land ownership.
  • Acted for the Claimant subcontractor, in a long running LCIA Arbitration concerning the design and construction of a liquefied gas plant under a bespoke form of EPC contract.
  • Acted for the Defendant company (a Nigerian oil and gas exploration company) in an ICC arbitration concerning oil and gas exploration rights.
  • Acted for the Defendant company in relation to a dispute under an Italian joint venture agreement concerning the construction of Naples Airport and provided ongoing advice in relation to the Italian Arbitration.
  • Acted for a Claimant German company in respect of an injunction against a developer concerning a project in Turkey preventing it from calling bonds and in relation to general claims.
