Karin Binder is a registered trademark agent in Gowling WLG’s Vancouver office, practising exclusively in the area of trademarks.
Karin handles all aspects of trademark prosecution in Canada, with an emphasis of assessing the registrability of trademarks, the filing and processing of applications to register trademarks, and trademark opposition and expungement proceedings.
She regularly collaborates with counsel in the United States and in other jurisdictions around the world to co-ordinate trademark protection for clients in Canada and internationally. In fact, Karin has helped clients protect their trademarks and manage their portfolio in over 165 jurisdictions.
Karin has served as Assistant Director and Director of the McGill/IPIC “Understanding Trademarks – an Introductory Course” (2012 and 2013), and is currently an instructor of the Trademark Agent Examination Prep Course offered by IPIC (Intellectual Property Institute of Canada).
She has also been appointed to the INTA’s Harmonization of Trademark Law and Practice Committee for the 2016-2017 term.
Prior to joining Gowling WLG, Karin worked for several years in the intellectual property field (patents and trademarks) in Switzerland, as well as in Canada.
Karin is fluent in English and German.
