Karin Kiho

Karin Kiho is a senior associate based in London, who advises employers on various contentious and non-contentious employment matters.

Karin handles a wide range of employment matters that may arise during the lifecycle of the employment relationship, from drafting employment contracts, service agreements and workplace policies, to managing day-to-day HR issues (such as grievances and disciplinaries), to advising on the termination of an employment relationship. She also assists clients with defending claims in the Employment Tribunal, as well as negotiating settlements.

With an Estonian background, Karin is a member of the Baltic Team at Gowling WLG. In that role, Karin helps develop and strengthen relationships with businesses in the Baltic region.

Experience

• Assisting with the employment aspects of a share acquisition, including conducting employment due diligence and advising on the employment warranties.
• Negotiating a favourable settlement of a high-risk tribunal claim for unfair dismissal and discrimination.
• Advising on the complex and sensitive dismissal of a senior employee whose continuing employment placed at risk the client's reputation.
• Successfully defending an unfair dismissal claim brought by a former teacher who was dismissed on safeguarding grounds.
• Supporting a global manufacturer with sensitive and overlapping disciplinary and grievance processes.
• Assisting a global retailer with large-scale redundancies. The work involved advising on the duty to consult, legal risks and strategy, drafting various documents including settlement agreements and advising on day-to-day issues arising from the collective consultation process.
• Drafting and reviewing employment documents, such as service agreements, employment contracts, staff handbooks and consultancy agreements.
