Laura B. Stewart

Laura B. Stewart is a partner in the Ottawa office of Gowling WLG. She focuses her legal practice on medical defence, representing medical professionals in civil litigation and administrative law matters.

Laura's practice includes civil litigation before all levels of the Ontario Courts, as well as advocacy before various administrative tribunals, including discipline committees, fitness to practice committees, consent and capacity matters and hospital privileges issues. She has a particular interest in mental health law.

Laura is actively involved in advocacy and legal education, and teaches frequently on both substantive law topics and advocacy techniques. In 2016, she received The Advocates' Society Award for Excellence in Teaching in recognition of her leadership in both the classroom and the legal profession.

Laura is actively involved in advocacy and legal education, having conducted several courses for the Advocates' Society. She is a former seminar instructor for the Trial Advocacy Course at the University of Ottawa, and has lectured at conferences and seminars on issues of substantive law and advocacy techniques.
