Lauren McMurtry

Lauren McMurtry is an associate lawyer in Gowling WLG's Ottawa office, practising family law within the advocacy department.

Lauren's practice focuses on all areas of family law, including drafting cohabitation, marriage and separation agreements, addressing custody and access issues, child and spousal support issues, property issues, and other issues pertaining to separation and divorce.

Previously, Lauren worked as a research assistant for the Reports Branch at the Supreme Court of Canada, and working as a guide interpreter at both the Supreme Court of Canada and Parliament. She also worked as a production assistant for the Vancouver Organizing Committee for the 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games. While attending law school, Lauren interned for a semester at the Ministry of Justice's Human Rights Law Section.

Lauren currently volunteers with the Elizabeth Fry Society, the Pro Bono Law Help Centre and the University of Ottawa's Refugee Sponsorship Support Program.

Lauren has also volunteered for the programme de procès simulés in Ottawa, which is a workshop and mock trial with schoolchildren to familiarize them with the judicial system. As a law student, Lauren was involved with the University of Ottawa's Association for At-Risk Women.

Lauren practises law in English and French. She is conversant in Spanish, Italian and German.
