Martha J. Savoy

Martha Savoy is a partner in the Intellectual Property Department of Gowling WLG's Ottawa office. She specializes in trademark and copyright registration, enforcement and litigation.

Martha routinely advises clients on strategies for enforcing their trademark and copyright rights against infringement. She has extensive experience in successfully resolving infringement matters for her clients in the software, footwear and apparel, technology, automotive, manufacturing, and media fields.

Martha seeks resolution of disputes where possible and crafts agreements that maintain crucial protection for her clients' intellectual property. When litigation is required, she pursues and defends infringement actions in court. 

Martha represents clients before the Federal Court of Canada, the Federal Court of Appeal, the Ontario Superior Court of Justice and the Canadian Trademarks Opposition Board. Martha registers trademarks and copyright with the Canadian Intellectual Property Office and manages global trademark portfolios on behalf of her clients.

Martha is currently chair of the International Trademark Association’s (INTA) Enforcement Committee. She is a member of the Canadian Bar Association’s Counterfeiting and Trade Offences Committee, and has served on the Intellectual Property Institute of Canada’s (IPIC) Litigation Committee, Copyright Committee, and the Canadian Intellectual Property Review Editorial Board.
