Megan Martins is an associate in the business law department of Gowling WLG's Ottawa office. Her practice is focused on advertising, regulatory and commercial law in relation to foods, drugs, natural health products, cannabis, cosmetics, technological devices (including vaping products and medical devices) and other consumer products.
Megan works with companies of all sizes at all stages of the product life cycle — from launch, through update to discontinuation — and assists with product classification, licensing, labelling, packaging, distribution, manufacturing and advertising. She has experience obtaining temporary marketing authorizations, conducting formulation and ingredient reviews, supporting clients through recalls, and helping clients with regulatory compliance related to multi-level marketing, direct selling and consumer protection.
As part of her practice, Megan supports clients through interactions with Health Canada, the Canadian Food Inspection Agency, Industry Canada and Environment Canada, as well as provincial and territorial regulators.
Prior to beginning her legal practice, Megan completed a specialized degree in international law, and earned recognition as both an oral and written advocate in international competition at the University of Oxford.
Megan is currently a co-editor of the Gowling WLG Ad Bytes newsletter and a guest lecturer at the University of Ottawa’s Faculty of Law.
