Rachel Prestayko

Rachel Prestayko is an articling student in Gowling WLG’s Toronto office.

Rachel completed her JD at the University of Ottawa with a specialization in Law and Technology, as well as Dispute Resolution and Professionalism. During her studies, she was an intern for the Canadian Intellectual Property Office (CIPO) on the Trademarks Opposition Board, a mentor in the Women’s Legal Mentorship Program, and a research assistant working on several projects, from privacy in autonomous vehicles to IP rights over seeds.

Prior to law school, Rachel was a research associate at an international research organization developing new materials for 3D printing. She became familiar with the patent process from the perspective of an inventor, as she is a named inventor on several patents.

Rachel holds a B.Sc. (Honours) in Chemistry from McMaster University. During her undergraduate degree, she had several research assistant roles synthesizing and testing nanomaterials and has contributed to a publication as first co-author.
