Ram Sankaran

Ram Sankaran is a litigator specializing in construction litigation with experience in construction disputes of varying scopes and scale along with a variety of commercial litigation matters.

He regularly represents both large infrastructure and construction contractors as well as developers in prosecuting and defending in different types of disputes.

Ram is dedicated to his clients and maintains transparent and effective communication by ensuring that the clients' instructions, whether they relate to strategy or budget, are foremost amongst his practice considerations.

Ram has appeared in the Federal Court on many occasions with many reported decisions from his previous immigration practice. More recently, he has appeared as co-counsel in multimillion dollar international and domestic construction arbitrations. In addition to his appearances before the Federal Court, Ram has appeared before a variety of administrative tribunals, the Federal Court of Appeal, Provincial Court of Alberta, Court of King's Bench of Alberta and the Alberta Court of Appeal.

Ram is an active member of the community and is a Board Member for Action Dignity, which represents a variety of ethnic communities in Calgary.

Representative Work

  • Worked for multinational corporations, on short notice, to ensure that various skilled workers in their employ obtained the proper permits to work on oil and gas projects in both Canada and the United States.
  • Successfully represented several clients at the Federal Court of Canada to challenge administrative decisions. As a result of this work, many of these clients obtained status in Canada after initially being refused.
