Sarah Li

Sarah Li is an associate in Gowling WLG's Calgary office, practising in the Intellectual Property Group. Her practice focuses on IP litigation, patent prosecution, and transactional work involving IP assets.

Her litigation practice involves patent litigation, trademark litigation and also copyright litigation. Sarah has appeared before both the Federal Court and the Federal Court of Appeal. One precedent setting decision that Sarah was involved in is the Canmar Foods Ltd. v TA Foods Ltd. decision with respect to viability of summary judgments in patent actions and file wrapper estoppel.

Sarah is currently a patent agent in training and her prosecution work involves both patent drafting and patent prosecution. Sarah has experience in various fields including biotechnology, medical devices, mechanical devices, and oil and gas.

Sarah obtained her JD from the University of Calgary. Prior to entering law school, she completed her BSc in biochemistry from McGill University. During law school, Sarah completed a legal internship with Innovate Calgary's Intellectual Property Management group (the innovation company of the University of Calgary), where she managed litigation files and clients, and assisted professors with respect to commercialization of IP assets.
