Sofia Tiukhteneva is a legal intern in Gowling WLG’s Moscow office. She focuses on intellectual property and information technology matters. Sofia has experience both as an in-house legal counsel in major IT companies in Russia, and as a lawyer in IP litigation practice.
For three years, she worked in a law firm on complicated IP-related cases, having handled cases in competition related issues, trademark cancellation, and trade-secrets enforcement, among other matters. She is skilled in developing effective IP strategies. In 2016, Sofia participated in the Bar Council Training Scheme for Russian and Ukrainian Lawyers in London, having gained practical understanding of litigation in England.
Sofia has extensive experience in providing legal support in intellectual property issues in IT, B2B e-commerce, and personal data protection. She has industry-specific knowledge, stemming from research and work experience as an in-house counsel at various tech companies, including a start-up, an established tech company, and a publicly listed entity.
Sofia is completing a specialized master’s degree in IP and IT law at the Higher School of Economics, taking first place in the cumulative ranking among students between the 2019 -2021 academic years. During this time, Sofia conducted research on antitrust regulation in digital markets, developing an even deeper understanding of business models in the digital markets.
Due to her academic accomplishments, she was selected to participate in an exchange programme in the Netherlands. During this time, Sofia successfully completed courses in European IP law. She also took courses covering engineering and the ethical aspects of such technologies as artificial intelligence, in order to further develop an understanding of the IT industry from all of its many angles.
