Steven Stechly

Steven is a summer law student in Gowling WLG’s Ottawa office. Steven will focus their summer work in the Advocacy Group.

Steven is completing their juris doctor at the University of Ottawa and is entering their third year. During their studies, Steven has been an active member of the 2(S)LGBTQ+ community and acted as co-president of OUTLaw (2020-2021) as well as a co-leader in the creation of the first ever National OUTLaw network. Steven also serves as a writing leader within the legal writing academy at the University of Ottawa.

Prior to entering law school, Steven completed a BASc at McGill University in political science and psychology. Steven has previously worked in Northern Canada as a public health student at the Cree Board of Health and Social Services in Waskaganish, Eeyou Istchee, and an outreach coordinator/science workshop leader in Nunavut. Last summer, Steven worked with the Law Society of Nunavut, where they gained experience drafting public legal education materials relating to employment law in the territory.
