Sumiko Mori

Sumiko Mori is a registered patent agent in the Gowling WLG's Ottawa office, practising before the Canadian Intellectual Property Office and the United States Patent and Trademark Office.

She has extensive experience in drafting, analyzing, prosecuting and maximising IP protection for clients, including innovative multinational companies throughout the world. Sumiko routinely advises clients on how to maximize IP protection in the fields of material science, high-tech manufacturing, clean energy, electronics, electro-mechanical, medical devices, software and computer-reliant products.

Sumiko obtained a master of science in engineering from Osaka University Graduate School, which was followed by working at a world leading electrical and electronic products company as an engineer. Her solid and diverse skill set allows her to efficiently advise innovation-based companies on effective IP portfolio management and IP protection. Prior to joining Gowling WLG, Sumiko worked for a leading patent firm in Japan and qualified to practise as a patent attorney before the Japan Patent Office. 

Sumiko is a member of Industrial Design Committee of the Intellectual Property Institute of Canada (IPIC).
