Susan Clarke

After practising in financing and commercial law for many years, Susan now acts as the firm’s Director of Professional Development, developing and implementing a curriculum of training and educational programs for Gowling WLG's Canadian professionals and students. She is also the firm’s Partner, Conflicts and handles a range of internal conflict of interest issues on files. With significant expertise and experience in plain language drafting, Susan has an equally significant wish to see all lawyers write in plain language. 

Before joining the firm, Susan clerked for Mr. Justice Ritchie in the Supreme Court of Canada, practised at another Bay Street firm, and acted as a consultant to the National Judicial Institute, the Medical Research Council of Canada, and various government departments and agencies. She also lectured full-time in Legal Research and Writing at Osgoode Hall Law School, was an instructor in Osgoode's "Written Advocacy" program, and taught legal writing and drafting in the Law Society of Ontario's former Bar Admission Course.
