Terrance (Yuan) Li

Terrance (Yuan) Li is an associate in the Advocacy department at Gowling WLG, where he supports clients navigate complex business disputes, including contractual claims, shareholder matters, and regulatory issues. Terrance brings a global perspective and a diverse legal background to his work, offering strategic insight and practical solutions to both domestic and international clients.
Before joining Gowling WLG, Terrance served as Vice President for a semi-professional sports franchise. He also served as a researcher at York University, working with start-ups to commercialize ideas and promote entrepreneurship.
Prior to relocating to Canada, Terrance practised law in Beijing, China, for nearly a decade. After beginning his career as legal counsel with a leading carbon and energy advisory firm, he spent the majority of his career serving clients in the sports and entertainment industry as well as the broader TMT (technology, media, and telecommunications) sector. His work included negotiating media rights and licensing agreements, handling copyright and competition litigation, and resolving investment, shareholder, and contract disputes. Terrance has worked on matters involving major global rights holders and top sports organizations, leading consumer brands, and prominent online media platforms.
Committed to giving back, Terrance serves as a board member for KidSport Canada, supporting initiatives that promote children’s social, mental, and physical well-being. An avid athlete himself, he enjoys playing basketball and ultimate frisbee. While at Osgoode, he represented York University in the Canadian University Ultimate Championships.
