Todd J. Burke

With over 25 years of experience, Todd Burke is an Ottawa-based Gowling WLG partner who handles complex disputes for individuals, private and public companies, as well as government and other public agencies. His representation includes early case assessment, regular reporting, project management, e-discovery best practices, effective budgeting and vigorous representation. His practice focuses on commercial litigation, professional liability, risk and crisis management.

Top-ranked in The Best Lawyers in Canada, Benchmark Litigation and Lexpert, Todd has been lead counsel in litigation and arbitration matters in the insurance, manufacturing, construction, real estate, technology and transportation sectors. His experience includes complex contractual disputes, economic torts, shareholders' remedies, distribution agreements, breach of confidence and trade secrets, trade libel, options to purchase, product liability and injunctions.

In the professional liability area, Todd leads a team dedicated to the representation of regulated health professionals and their insurers in a variety of disciplines. In addition to representing health professionals, Todd represents engineers, financial advisors and technology professionals.

Todd's experience also includes providing risk and crisis management advice to the firm's clients. He is a frequent lecturer on this topic.

Todd leads the firm's Crisis Management Group and is co-leader of its Lloyd's of London client team. Previously, Todd served as the national leader of the firm's Commercial Litigation Group, its U.S. Initiative and was the lead trustee on the firm's Board of Trustees.

Dedicated to excellent client service, Todd was the recipient of the 2018 Client Choice Award for litigation in Ontario, sponsored by Lexology.

Todd has served on the Boards of the Ottawa Mission, Habitat for Humanity, the Hospice at Maycourt, and the Advisory Board of the Caring and Sharing Exchange (formerly the Christmas Exchange).
