Yuxiao Zhou is a patent agent specializing in drafting and prosecuting high-value patent applications and industrial designs across a wide range of technologies. With deep technical expertise in engineering and extensive experience before various national patent offices, Yuxiao helps his clients secure durable, strategically scoped protection for their innovations.
Yuxiao has prepared numerous first-filing applications for clients ranging from individual inventors to professional researchers at leading universities, as well as globally recognizable Canadian corporations. He is highly experienced with inventions in high-tech fields such as software, robotics, telecommunications, biomedical devices, fintech, and business methods, particularly artificial intelligence (AI) technologies and AI-enabled applications. Drawing on his strong technical background, Yuxiao drafts robust patent applications for novel technologies and challenging subject matter, maintaining rigorous claim architecture designed to withstand scrutiny on subject matter eligibility and enablement.
Yuxiao also manages complex, multi-jurisdictional prosecution of AI, fintech, and other computer-implemented inventions, resolving challenging rejections in Canada and the U.S. through precise, targeted amendments and arguments. In Canada, he has supported and undertaken prosecution for the patent portfolios of key international corporate clients, providing strategic advice on divisional practice, priority management, double patenting, and statutory subject matter.
Beyond prosecution, Yuxiao advises growth-stage companies on IP portfolio development and management, and prepares patentability, invalidity, patent landscape, and freedom-to-operate opinions.
Yuxiao holds a BASc in Nanotechnology Engineering from the University of Waterloo and a MASc in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Toronto, where his research centered on novel organ-on-a-chip designs. His publication record includes coauthorship in leading scientific journals including Nano Letters, Science Advances, EBioMedicine, and Advanced Materials Technologies.
