French IP specialist joins Gowling WLG's Dubai office

01 November 2016

International law firm Gowling WLG has welcomed Vanessa Delnaud as a senior associate to its award-winning IP team.

Vanessa was formerly an associate at Dentons Dubai, after moving to the city on secondment from the firm's Paris office. During her time in Paris, she also gained experience with Bird & Bird and in-house at Universal Music France.

Vanessa has represented international clients (from individual designers and artists, to multinational corporations) in a variety of sectors, including cosmetics, pharmaceuticals, fashion, entertainment, publishing, research and development, food and beverages, hotels and construction. Her practice covers a wide range of IP experience including contentious and commercial IP matters, advertising, media and entertainment, as well as mediation and cross-border disputes in the MENA region and Europe.

She will support Jon Parker, who joined the team earlier this year, to establish and grow Gowling WLG's full service IP presence in the Middle East and Africa.

Partner, Jon Parker said: "Bringing Vanessa on board is the next step in strengthening our IP presence in the Middle East and into Africa. Her international expertise will allow us to deliver high quality client service to our ever-growing MENA customer base and beyond. She will also play a key role in working closely with Gowling WLG colleagues in France and in French-speaking parts of Canada in particular."

Based in the Dubai International Financial Centre (and having been in the United Arab Emirates for eight years), Gowling WLG Dubai office advises on UAE, DIFC and English law throughout the GCC, wider Middle East and Africa.

Vanessa said: "Gowling WLG is renowned for its world leading IP practice and I am thrilled to be a part of that. I'm joining at an exciting time for the team, as we look to expand our presence both within and outside the UAE. I look forward to working with such a varied client base and seeing where I can develop this even further."

Vanessa speaks French, English and Spanish. She completed a postgraduate degree in Literary, Artistic and Industrial Property Law at Paris II University, before being admitted to the Paris Bar in 2007.

Gowling WLG's IP team takes a holistic, commercial approach to guarantee a perfectly tailored solution for every client. Their starting point is looking at what you want to achieve and then setting out a strategy to find the best solution. Chambers refers to the team as "a quality operation ... there is no doubt that they are leading the field."
