Vicky Fowler appointed first female Chair of Compulsory Purchase Association

19 October 2017

Vicky Fowler, a planning and regeneration partner at international law firm Gowling WLG, has been announced as the new Chair of the Compulsory Purchase Association (CPA).

A non-for-profit member organisation that promotes best practice in delivering land for infrastructure, housing and regeneration, Vicky has been a Committee Member of the CPA since 2015, became Vice Chair in 2016 and has now become the association' first female Chair. The prestigious new role will see Vicky use her wealth of expertise to promote best practice, drive the association' priorities for the coming year and lead its initiatives, including responding to government on compulsory purchase legislation and guidance.

The CPA was formed in 2002 with a focus on compulsory purchase compensation work and is made up of a collection of surveyors, lawyers and barristers. Governed by an elected Board of Members who all specialise in compulsory purchase, the CPA provides a platform to contribute to best practice and law reform. In recent years, it has contributed to law reform in the Localism Act 2011, the Housing and Planning Act 2016 and the Neighbourhood Planning Act 2017, among others.

A partner at the award-winning planning team at Gowling WLG, Vicky Fowler commented: "It's an honour to have been appointed the first female Chair of the CPA. It's an exciting time to be Chair of the association as we look to promote some forward-thinking initiatives, including inclusiveness, which is our key focus for 2017/18."

Replacing the outgoing Chair Colin Cottage, Vicky will be looking to continue the CPA' recent focus on education and addressing the skills gap. Vicky added: "I am very much looking forward to the next 12 months, working with the committee and importantly the membership and other stakeholders in the world of compulsory purchase."
