Gowling WLG head of AI co-edits The Law of Artificial Intelligence for Sweet & Maxwell
Gowling WLG's head of artificial intelligence (UK), Matt Hervey, has co-edited a new book with 4 Pump Court's Dr Matthew Lavy discussing the key legal considerations around artificial intelligence (AI).
'The Law of Artificial Intelligence', published by the leading legal publishing house Sweet & Maxwell, is an essential practitioner's reference book examining emerging laws specific to the use of AI and how key areas of current civil and criminal law will apply to AI. It explains the fundamentals of AI technology, its development and terminology and also covers regulation, ethics and the use of AI within legal services and the administration of justice.
Chapters of the book have been contributed by specialists from the Bar, private practice and academia. Bernardine Adkins, Gowling WLG's head of EU, trade and competition, also contributed to the publication, authoring the chapter on competition law.
Matt Hervey said: "AI is being adopted across all industries and raises new legal, regulatory and ethical challenges. 'The Law of Artificial Intelligence' is perfectly timed to explain how existing laws apply to the use of AI and to explain the accelerating legislative and regulatory developments aimed at AI. For me, co-editing the book has been a perfect opportunity to crystallise years of research into AI and intellectual property and to develop a holistic understanding of the impact of AI across key areas of law and the subtle cross-currents between them."
