Marking 40 years since the Air India tragedy
Jacques J.M. Shore reflects on the legacy of Canada’s deadliest terror attack in new CBC documentary
This month marks 40 years since the tragic bombing of Air India Flight 182—the deadliest act of terrorism in Canadian history. In a new CBC documentary exploring the attack, its aftermath, and its enduring impact, Gowling WLG partner Jacques J.M. Shore, C.M., shares his insights and experiences as co-lead counsel to the Air India Victims’ Families Association.
Appointed by the federal government (PCO/PMO) to serve in this role before the 2006 Commission of Inquiry into the bombing, Jacques helped identify the cascade of failures that led to the tragedy—and contributed to recommendations for more accountable and security-focused air transportation protocols.
The documentary is now available to stream on CBC Gem and YouTube.
