Canada considers private investment in major airports: Joey Suri discusses the potential implications with CTV News and The Hub
The federal government is considering bringing private investment into some of Canada’s largest airports through long-term concession agreements, while retaining ownership of airport lands.
Speaking recently with CTV News and The Hub, Joey Suri, Partner, Leader Aviation and Aeronautics Practice, discussed what the proposed model could mean for Canada’s aviation sector, investors and travellers, including opportunities for infrastructure investment and the importance of appropriate safeguards for passengers.
“How do we make sure that the concession agreements do not end up in consumers having to pay more? There could be safeguards put into place, and you can perhaps even have a regulator. For example, in Australia, they have the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission, which monitors the prices, the cost, the profits and the quality of the services at the major airports.”
