Bio
Elaine Chen is a summer student based in Gowling WLG’s Calgary office. She is currently pursuing a juris doctor at the University of Calgary Faculty of Law.
She previously earned her Honours Business Administration from the Ivey Business School at Western University, where she developed a strong foundation in strategic thinking, collaboration, and client-focused problem solving. Her academic experience across business and law has shaped her practical and analytical approach to complex issues.
During her undergraduate studies, Elaine was actively involved in academic and student leadership initiatives. She served as Exchange Director within the Ivey HBAA Academics Portfolio, supporting incoming international students and helping coordinate academic programming. She additionally co-founded BioPour, a sustainable beverageware venture developed through Ivey’s new venture program, where she worked on market research and strategy development.
At the University of Calgary, Elaine is involved with Student Legal Assistance, where she assists with client intake and has developed skills in legal research, drafting, and client communication. She was also recently elected Vice President of Events for the Society of Law Students.
Elaine is drawn to the legal profession for its combination of analytical problem solving, advocacy, and meaningful client interaction. She is currently drawn to areas such as securities but means to keep an open mind throughout her summer internship.
