Emma Hobbs is an associate in Gowling WLG's Vancouver office, practising in the firm's Advocacy Department and Environmental Law Practice Group.
Her practice includes advising industry, government, and First Nations clients on environmental, Indigenous and regulatory law matters. Emma has experience in environmental litigation, judicial reviews, spills management and reporting, contaminated sites remediation, environmental permitting and regulatory offences, waste diversion (including extended producer responsibility and product stewardship matters), energy, forestry, marine and Indigenous governance matters.
Emma is called to the bar in British Columbia, Alberta, and Yukon, and has appeared before superior and appellate level courts in these jurisdictions, and before the Federal Court. Emma also frequently advocates on behalf of clients before administrative tribunals, including the British Columbia Environmental Appeal Board, the British Columbia Forest Appeals Commission, the Alberta Utilities Commission and the Environmental Protection Tribunal of Canada.
Emma received her law degree from the Peter A. Allard School of Law at the University of British Columbia, graduating with a specialization in Aboriginal Law. Before law school, Emma completed a BSc and MSc in Biology at Western University. She then worked in municipal government, focusing on renewable energy projects and environmental research.
