Gowling WLG's Energy team has supported L&B Partners Avvocati Associati advising an Italian wind farm developer and also a company involved in the construction and maintenance of offshore wind farms in respect of their equity investments in a Brazilian special purpose vehicle for the development of an off-shore wind farm in the north-east of Brazil.

Once developed, the off-shore wind farm is expected to have a power capacity of approximately 600 MW and will become the first off-shore wind project in the particular region in Brazil.

The Gowling WLG team working on the deal was led by partner Gareth Baker (Corporate, London), co-head of Gowling WLG's Energy Sector Group, working with partner and leader of the firm's Latin America Group, France Tenaille (Corporate, Toronto), and principal associate Dhruv Chhatralia (Corporate, London).

L&B Partners Avvocati Associati led the legal and commercial aspects of the transaction fielding a team led by partner Davide Pelloso, alongside managing associate Giuseppe Candela and associate Giulia Bianchi, with the supervision of managing partner Michele Di Terlizzi.

The Brazilian legal advice on the transaction was given by Machado Meyer, with their team led by partner Ana Karina Souza and including lawyer Jose Carlos Altomari Teixeira.

Gowling WLG's multi-disciplinary Energy team has a first-class reputation and operates seamlessly around the globe. This latest deal is another example of the team's leading position in the wind farm industry following a series of recent mandates, including advising Longspur Capital on the disposal of two operating onshore wind farms to Octopus Energy, and acting for Natixis Energeco on the financing of two wind farms (60MW) operated by a French IPP. The team also advised AIB on funding provided to the East Anglia One Offshore Wind Farm and acting for Statkraft on various offtake contracts entered into with various UK offshore wind farms, including on its power purchase agreement (PPA) with Seagreen Wind Energy, relating to what will be the largest offshore wind farm in Scotland.
