A cross-firm team has advised Arden Cross Limited on its site in Solihull that will create a new, global mixed-use destination.

The site could now be brought forward up to three years earlier than originally planned and will create thousands of new jobs and homes in the region, as well as being the location of the new HS2 Interchange Station.

A set of development enabling collaboration agreements have been signed by Arden Cross (the landowners), the Department for Transport, HS2 Ltd, Solihull Council and the Urban Growth Company, to commit to a shared objective to release land around the station for development as early as possible.

Gowling WLG advised Arden Cross on the key agreements to provide the framework for collaboration between the public and private sectors to bring forward the development of the 140-hectare site.

The team was led by partner Nisha Jassal and consultant Peter Thorne, with assistance from senior associate Katie Williams and paralegal Aisha Ul-Haq on real estate matters, partner Toni Weston on compulsory purchase aspects and principal associate Chris Letters and partner Jeremy Millington on corporate aspects.

Nisha Jassal, partner at Gowling WLG, said: "Arden Cross is one of the most important strategic developments not just for the Midlands but for the UK as a whole. It is tremendously exciting to be involved in this project, helping create a globally significant mixed-use destination of this scale. This development will have a huge positive impact on the regional economy and our team is delighted to be able to play their part in making it happen. The signing of these key agreements signifies an important step in delivering on the Arden Cross vision."

Ben Gray, Development Director with Arden Cross Limited, said: "With a legal framework in place between the different stakeholders involved in Arden Cross, we can now accelerate our delivery programme that sets out the phases for this major mixed-use site. With the prospect of 27,000 new jobs, 3,000 new homes and up to six million sq ft of new commercial and employment space, Arden Cross is a rare example of the ability to create a global destination right at the heart of the UK. The interest we're already seeing in the site underscores the public-private approach to working in partnership in the interests of the region and its people.

"We are grateful for the commitment, hard work and support received from the Gowling WLG team in leading us through these complex, multi-party negotiations. They combined their skills and expertise to deliver innovative legal solutions that will pave the way for the creation of this mixed use destination."

Gowling WLG has a dedicated development and regeneration teams in the UK and act for a wide range of developers, funders and local authorities. The broad spectrum of asset classes we deal with means our expertise advising on mixed use schemes and regeneration sites is unparalleled.
