During Wednesday's council meeting at Hamilton City Hall, Gowling WLG was honoured with a 2019 Hamilton Business Appreciation Award, which recognizes and celebrates significant contributions to regional business development.

Notably, Gowling WLG was one of only two businesses to win in the city-wide category, selected by Hamilton mayor Fred Eisenberger.

Leigh Ann Sheather, partner, and Kathy LeBlanc, business development and marketing coordinator, were on hand to accept the award on behalf of the firm.

"This is a great affirmation of our team's commitment to accelerating economic growth and innovation throughout the region," said Louis Frapporti, managing partner of Gowling WLG's Hamilton office. "On behalf of the firm, I thank the City for this meaningful recognition."

The firm's roots in Hamilton truly run deep. Gowling WLG was the first national Canadian law firm to locate in the Hamilton area. Since opening its doors in 1995, it has established itself not only as one of the city's leading providers of legal solutions, but also as an important driver of economic activity and innovation.

In recent years, Gowling WLG has reinforced its commitment to Hamilton by becoming an active accelerant of the city's commercial renaissance. The firm has done so by cementing partnerships with principal institutions - including McMaster University, Mohawk College and the City itself - and leveraging its far-reaching network to assist in the commercializing of innovation and promotion of investment in this region.

To that end, last month Gowling WLG sent representatives as part of an ambitious Hamilton delegation to India, led by Mayor Eisenberger and comprised of government, academic and business leaders. The aim of the trip, as Frapporti outlined in The Hamilton Spectator, was to catalyze economic activity, promote foreign direct investment in Hamilton, and raise awareness of the advantages of doing business in the city.
