Gowling WLG's planning team appoints Nigel Hewitson as a consultant

International law firm, Gowling WLG, has appointed highly experienced planning solicitor, Nigel Hewitson, as a consultant in its successful planning team.

Nigel brings almost 30 years' experience to the role. Over his career Nigel has worked on major planning projects for a broad range of clients such as McDonalds, LaFarge Tarmac, E.ON, DP World and the London Thames Gateway Development Corporation. Nigel's planning expertise runs parallel with a genuine personal interest in the preservation of older buildings, illustrated by his former role as legal director at English Heritage, his active membership of the Institute of Historic Buildings Conservation's legal panel and his recent co-authorship (with Charles Mynors) of "Listed Buildings and Other Heritage Assets", published by Sweet & Maxwell. He is also a member of the Royal Town Planning Institute General Assembly.

Indeed, Nigel's varied client experience matches well with that of Gowling WLG's planning team, which boasts a comprehensive client portfolio, with work having been carried out on the development of Brent Cross Cricklewood, a planned new town development in North London, and Ebbsfleet Garden City in Gravesend, Kent.

Commenting on his appointment, Nigel said:

"I am very much looking forward to working within the Gowling WLG planning team which enjoys an enviable reputation as a leading player in the planning sphere. The firm's 'clients first' focus chimes exactly with my approach to delivering legal services, so the decision to join was an easy one. I look forward to contributing my experience and expertise to an exciting range of projects for the firm's wide range of premium quality clients, as well as new ones I hope to help win."

Vicky Fowler, head of planning at Gowling WLG, said:

"Nigel is very well-known in the market and as such, will bring his diverse experience of advising on nationwide schemes to bear on an already successful team. In addition to his capabilities, Nigel's proven ability in winning high quality instructions will also be a key attribute of his appointment. As with anything, driving increased knowhow, expertise and insight throughout a team allows for a more agile, client-ready approach - something which Gowling WLG stands for and Nigel will clearly help enhance."
