Glyn Ryland to retire from Gowling WLG partnership and retire as a lawyer

After 21 years with the firm, Glyn Ryland will retire from Gowling WLG's partnership, and retire as a lawyer, on 30 April 2020. Jason Coates will take over the leadership of the Gowling WLG Pensions Team, a role he has been moving into over the past year.

Glyn has been Team Leader of the Pensions Team since December 1999. Over that time, it has grown from being a six lawyer team to being one of the country's leading pensions law teams. The Gowling WLG Pensions Team acts for some of the largest pensions schemes in the country, as well as a range of other valued schemes and employer clients of all sizes and from many sectors, insurers, statutory bodies, and other firms of advisers.

The team has specialist sub-teams covering areas such as risk transfer, pensions disputes, public sector pensions, combined human resources, and DC/master trusts.

Glyn Ryland said: "Working with and leading this team has been a fantastic experience. We've grown to be many times larger over the past 20 years, thanks to a team of great people and the support of a wide range of different clients, of all sizes and from many sectors. The team is now poised to go from strength to strength under Jason's leadership, with fantastic client relationships, a very strong set of partners, and an outstanding team of lawyers and support staff."

Jason Coates added: "Glyn has done a phenomenal job of leading this team over such a long period. He deserves enormous credit for what the team has achieved over that time and he's been a great colleague and friend. We wish Glyn well for the next stage of his life, which will include acting as a professional trustee."
