Dan Polonenko, PhD

Dan Polonenko is a principal and patent agent in the Calgary office of Gowling WLG. His practice involves patent drafting and prosecution in the fields of life sciences, focusing on biotechnology, health, medical devices, agriculture and forestry, oil and gas, energy, clean tech, environmental technologies, process engineering, and mechanical inventions. Additionally, Dan provides business-focused strategic intellectual property (IP) and technology commercialization services.

Dan is a member of the firm's Chemistry, Technology, Life Sciences, and Patent Prosecution groups.

A registered patent agent in both Canada and the United States, Dan has over 20 years of experience in the Canadian biotech industry, including seven years at the executive levels at two companies. During his scientific and business careers, Dan co-authored 20 peer-reviewed scientific publications and several book chapters. As an inventor, Dan is a co-inventor of six issued patent families.

With over 13 years of corporate experience, Dan has been involved in strategic business plan preparation and implementation, budgeting and cost management, as well as the development and management of IP portfolios.

Dan has been listed in: (i) IAM Patent 1000 – World's Leading Patent Practitioners since 2014 to present, (ii) IAM Strategy 300 – World's Leading IP Strategists during 2014-2016, and (iii) is the recipient of the 2016 Clients' Choice award from ILO/Lexology for patent services in Alberta.
