Michael O'Neill

Michael O’Neill is a partner in Gowling WLG's Ottawa office. A member of the Intellectual Property Group, Michael practises primarily in the area of trademark law.

Michael has developed a broad range of expertise in all matters relating to trademarks, having advised private and public sector clients on the acquisition, protection and enforcement of trademark rights in Canada and elsewhere. His practice focuses on trademark clearance, trademark prosecution, trademark portfolio management, trademark opposition and expungement proceedings, trademark infringement, trademark litigation, and anti-counterfeiting matters. Michael has appeared as counsel before the Trademarks Opposition Board, the Ontario Superior Court, the Federal Court of Canada, and the Federal Court of Appeal.

Michael's leadership talents extend beyond Gowling WLG. He is a part-time professor at the University of Ottawa Law School where he teaches an upper-year class on Intellectual Property Litigation.
