Michael Walsh

Michael Walsh is an associate in Gowling WLG's Ottawa office. His practice focuses on government affairs, privacy, access to information, competition and antitrust law, and foreign investment review.

As a part of his government affairs practice, Michael advises and assists clients with government relations and regulatory matters, including lobbying compliance.

Michael advises clients on a range of privacy matters, including the development of privacy and compliance policies. He also assists clients with data protection matters and matters relating to federal and provincial access to information legislation.

Michael advises clients on all matters relating to the civil and criminal provisions of the Competition Act, including pre-notification filings.

In the area of foreign investment review, Michael advises clients on notification filings, national security reviews, net benefit reviews, and cultural sector reviews under the Investment Canada Act.

Michael completed his JD at the University of Ottawa. During his final year, Michael received the International Association of Privacy Professionals' Westin Scholar Award for his high performance in privacy law coursework. Prior to entering law school, Michael completed his Bachelor of Arts (Hons.) in Political Studies with a Certificate in Business at Queen's University.
